0% Financing Isn't Always Free

When you're getting tempted to buy a big-ticket item, 0% financing can be the thing that makes you pull the trigger. After all, who doesn't enjoy the free use of money? Really, you need to investigate whether or not it is free. For a nice summary of the issues, see an article at bargaineering.com. The author notes:

Finally, remember that it’s a loan so it’ll appear on your credit report and ding your credit score. If you plan on any big purchases, house or car, then you might want to hold off on the new flat screen

In addition, you might have to pay some interest on the thing you bought with "0% financing".
