Speaking of phishing scams, there's a relatively new Website offering to check out your Social Security Number and credit card numbers. Simply type your SSN into the little box at StolenIDSearch.com and it lets you know if your SSN appears in any lists known to be used by scammers. Of course, you have to type in your SSN or credit card number - which I'm not very comfortable doing. Supposedly the site is legitimate, and site operators make a decent argument by saying that your SSN alone is not enough to steal your identity -- even if they were thieves they would need additional information about you to do anything meaningful. For more details, listen to the APM:Future Tense show or podcast. The January 24th episode has an interview with one of the site's operators.
