The Dark Side of Online Banking

Online banking and payments make our lives a lot easier. Of course, the bad guys also get a break. Some online payment systems have been notorious for criminal activity -- supporting scams and child pornography rings, for example. A recent Washington Post story tells the story of an ongoing investigation of E-Gold, and you can imagine that there are plenty of similar organizations out there. While most reputable banks will not cooperate while you take advantage of others, anonymous systems make it easier for people to get away with it. In the brick-and-mortar days, you'd have a hard time showing your face and asking your banker to look the other way. Nowadays, you can surely find somebody out there...
