Watch out for Cybersquatters

When banking online, you have to be especially vigilant. One of the things you should watch for is cybersquatting -- the practice of creating a false domain name similar to the genuine article. A cybersquatter takes advantage of the fact that our eyes move fast -- we assume that bankof1america.com is the same as bankofamerica.com. Alas, the first site is set up to steal your information.

A recent article in the Investment News highlights how banks are a major target for cybersquatters. This is one more reason to take extra care when you bank online. Set up bookmarks or favorites for the sites you use, and only click on links when you trust the source. Banking online can actually be safer as long as you're careful.
