High Rate CD Advertisements

Sometimes you see some great CD rates advertised in the paper. If they've got the bank's name and logo right next to the rate, you know who you're dealing with. These teaser rates bring new customers in the door, and the bank hopes you'll stay after the promotional rates end.

Sometimes you see a high rate, but you have to call to schedule an appointment. A recent posting at BankDeals discussed this approach. In many cases, the person you meet with will try to sell you an annuity (sooner or later). Note that you will sometimes end up buying brokered CDs from such individuals, but the end goal is generally to build a relationship and use higher revenue-generating products down the road. These products may or may not be appropriate for your needs.
