Ken Lewis Says Banks are OK

By , About.com GuideMarch 9, 2009

Follow me on:

Ken Lewis, CEO of Bank of America, says that things are improving in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece.

The purpose of his comments is to address concerns about the banking system, including:

  • The banks aren't lending
  • The banks are insolvent
  • TARP hasn't worked
  • Taxpayers have given the banks billions and won't get it back
  • The banks that caused this mess must be held accountable
  • The only way to fix the banks is to nationalize them
His remarks are sure to get mixed reviews. Lewis has been under fire for being a part of the problem, and of course he's got his biases. He's also an important player going forward as head of a large bank.

With an optimistic view, he says that government programs to end the credit crunch and provide mortgage help are working. Read his thoughts and tell us what you think in the comments below.
