Do You Use Mobile Banking?

NetBanker recently asked how people prefer to access their bank accounts.

As noted at NetBanker.com, it was an unscientific study. However, the LinkedIn users - fairly tech-savvy people I assume - clearly favor the plain old Internet as their preferred way to bank.

The choices included:

  • via website
  • via mobile phone (data query)
  • voice call (landline or cel)
  • via ATM
  • via social network (Facebook)
The vast majority (84%) chose the website - 8 to 1 over mobile banking. I feel the same way. I can't imagine many situations where I need to use my mobile phone to for banking transactions.

I'm generally at a computer often enough to take care of everything, and phone calls to the bank - as painful as they are - take care of everything else.

What about you? Are there any reasons you would or wouldn't use your mobile phone (or other methods) for banking? Tell us about it in the comments.

North America is lagging other markets in terms of adoption in mobile applications including banking applications.

It is noted the LinkedIn survey is unscientific, but it’s also hard to ignore that Bank of America had over 500K users on their mobile banking application *before it was promoted*. BOA’s figures are now in the 2m mark for mobile banking use. That’s a number that is hard to ignore.

Have you tried BOAs iPhone application? It is simply awesome. Why? Because the phone is no longer a telecom device but a mobile computing device.

As devices get more powerful and ubiquitous, the market will continue this direction.
