The Consumerist reports at least 3 ATM skimmers were found at Chase banks in a single week.
ATM skimmers, which can also be placed on gas station pumps or anywhere else you slide a card, are devices that read your card number and pass it on to scammers.
Thieves may also try to get your PIN with hidden cameras, and then they've got access to everything they need.
Either ATM skimmers are getting more popular (wouldn't be a huge surprise given hard economic times) or people are getting better at spotting them. Either way, make sure you know what to look for. Take a second and scrutinize anything that looks funny before you stick your card in it.
