Credit is important right now, and information about your credit is valuable. Can you get free credit scores and reports?

A lot of places promise to provide free credit information, but you rarely get what they promise. Most require that you pay a fee, sign up for a 'trial' membership (that you must cancel), or provide credit scores that are different from the ones your lender uses.

So, where can you really get free credit information? US laws require that consumers get a free annual credit report each year, and you can also get credit scores from lenders (among other sources). For details and ideas, see How to Get Free Credit Reports and Scores.

You'll also get ideas on how to educate yourself about credit so it's as good as it can be.
