When times are tough, more and more turn to crime to make a few bucks.
Right now it's as important as ever to watch out for check scams. People may give you a nice looking check, but remember it's only good if their bank actually pays your bank. Even cashier's checks are not guaranteed, since it's harder and harder to distinguish a fake one from a good one.
