Bank Wire Scams Snag Used Car Buyers

Buying a used car? Be careful about wiring money to pay for the car.

Online scammers use this trick and get away with it: they tell potential buyers to wire money for a car, and the car never shows up.

Unfortunately, it's not easy to get money back after you wired it. Banks aren't in the business of playing referee on business deals - they just handle money. You can file complaints and police reports, but the chances of getting your money back are slim.

About.com's expert on Used Cars highlighted a recent used car scam in New York. He also provides useful tips on how to collect when selling a car.
