If you get an email claiming to be from the FDIC, there's a good chance it's a scam.
A recent scam tries to lure you by saying "you need to check your Bank Deposit Insurance Coverage." Then, you're supposed to click a link, which will undoubtedly lead to many headaches.
According to BankInfoSecurity.com, some of the links lead to websites with overseas domain names. One way to detect phishing scams is to examine links in email messages. You can't always see what links really point to - scammers can hide the destination in some cases - but you'll improve your chances if you open email as plain-text.

If you get one of these messages, don't click on anything. Contact your bank or the FDIC if you think it's something you need to follow up on.
