USAA bank customers deposited 1.5 million checks with mobile phones over the past year.
USAA led other banks with remote deposit capability, but a few others are getting on board. Instead of going to the bank, you can just take a picture of a check using special software on your phone or computer. Your bank will process the check and add money to your account.
35% of checks at USAA now get processed this way. Unfortunately, the service is not available to all USAA customers. While anybody can open an account, only select groups are eligible for remote deposit services (generally military personnel and their family). [via NetBanker]
