It's not news that bank fees are rising, but you may be surprised to see exactly how it happens.
Debit cards seem to be a likely target. They became popular (and hip) as everybody swore off debt during the financial crisis. Apparently consumers are loving their debit cards to death while banks and regulators play Whack-A-Mole: banks are going where they're not yet prohibited from going and where all the action is.
Watch for mail regarding changes to your debit card. The Wall Street Journal predicts that banks may raise fees and limit how you can use your debit card. Some changes may not technically be "fees," but they'll change the way you bank. If you don't like what you see, take your business elsewhere.
