With pain from the financial crisis fresh in their minds, consumers are especially conscious about living within their means. But is a cash-only approach feasible?

Credit cards and debit cards make things more convenient, but of course they come with tradeoffs. If you're concerned about going into debt, use a debit card so you can only spend the funds available in your checking account (be sure you're not signed up for an overdraft service or line of credit).
