What happens when somebody asks you to send money?  What if it's a relative or a close friend in crisis?

If you're like most people, you want to help.  However, money transfer scams commonly take advantage of that desire.  They spin convincing stories to get your cash.

MoneyGram International reminds us that these scams actually happen -- and they work.  They've highlighted a few of the most common money transfer scams to help you protect yourself.

In most cases, once you send the money it's gone for good or it's very difficult to recover.  It's worth stepping back and checking out any story, especially if it matches a textbook scam or sounds too good to be true.
