Earlier this month, Ally bank announced their eCheck Deposit service. Customers will be able to "deposit" checks by sending an image of the check -- not the check itself -- to Ally.
This remote deposit capability should make life easier for customers, and they'll get their money faster. They can use any old scanner, and mobile applications may be coming soon.
Unfortunately, the service isn't available to everybody yet. If you want a sneak peek at how the process works, MyBankTracker can help. A reader there provided a review of Ally's online check deposit system, complete with screenshots.
