ING Direct Goes Old-School With Paper Checks

Sometimes progress can get ahead of itself. Online banks make life easy and offer competitive rates, but they may not offer some of the basics -- like a book of checks you can use when you have to write a check.

ING Direct's Electric Orange checking account previously did not allow you to write old fashioned checks; you couldn't order checks from the bank or from a third party check printer.  Now, that's changed (although you still can't use a third party printer).

ING Direct is not the first online bank to make paper checks available.  Ally bank offers free checks, and ING Direct may have learned that customers want checks. This makes internet bank accounts even more useful, and allows you to use them in more places.
