Certified Check

By Justin Pritchard, About.com

Definition: A check guaranteed by the bank to be good -- they promise the payee that the check won't bounce. Contrast this to a personal check: the account may or may not have enough money in it.

With a certified check, the bank has already taken money from the person's account.

Also Known As: Cashier's Check, Certified Funds
Examples: You must pay with a certified check.
