Be Careful Cashing Unsolicited Checks

Cashing checks is getting to be more and more of a pain. Last week we saw how you can end up going to jail if a scammer sends you a bad check. A recent episode of the ConsumerMan podcast talks about those promotional checks you get in the mail. Often, a company sends you a modest sum and hopes you'll cash the check (which means you've "agreed" to some service or another). These companies work with your bank so that they can charge your credit card -- even if you've never given them your credit card number. Check out the podcast to learn more.
