What Will the Fees Be?

Bank fees can be hard to find. If you're shopping for a new banking relationship, you'll want to know what the fees are. After all, you'll pick a provider that doesn't charge as much for the things you do (all other things being equal). Some institutions make it very easy to find out what to expect when it comes to fees. Others require some homework and teamwork. Over at Consumerist.com, they're working on a collection of bank fee disclosures. Take a look if you are shopping banks, and help them find where some of the toughies are.

Talk about hidden fees. Don’t use North Fork Bank. They tried to charge me $15 Undeliverable Mail Fees even though I was receiving all of my statements and bank correspondence. Yes, that’s right. $15 each month for mail that they said wasn’t being delivered, even though I was receiving all of my mail from them. The statement I held in my hand contained a 15 dollar fee for not being delivered. I thought I was on Candid Camera. When I called to correct them, they snottily lectured me and acted like I was the one at fault. Gotta love being yelled at by customer service when it’s their mistake.
