Do You Use Mint?

Wednesday October 10, 2007
Mint.com is one of the latest hot personal finance services online. You can enter details for a variety of accounts and view them all in one place. Of course, this means that you have to provide account numbers and passwords to the folks at Mint. In addition to a one-stop-shop for viewing your accounts, Mint looks at your balances and transactions to come up with money-saving suggestions.

Mint's popularity has reawakened the debate about online personal finance aggregators. Sure, they make life easy because you can just login once to see everything. However, it's a brand new company -- how safe is it? Part of the mistrust comes from an inability to understand how the company makes money. You don't want the guys with your username/passwords to fall on hard times... It is presumed that Mint earns fees related to the recommendations they provide to you.
