The Consumerist has a nice infographic showing how some of the most common schemes work. If you're not sure how rent-to-own programs and payday loans work, you'll soon get the picture. They also show how secured credit cards (sometimes used to build credit) can cost a lot more than you think.

be weary of Orchard Credit Card….they do not tell you they charge you up front for a full year of service fees which is $74. You have a card before you have all the details it is a total scam for anyone that is just trying to find out information about the card be very aware that they are not playing fair and should be reported to the Attorney General for not disclosing information to the consumer of upfront fees before the card is even activated by the consumer. Emailing asking questions is futile as usual to a company such as this they will not answer any question directly…..just screams consumer beware consumer fraud…making money from consumers and the consumer paying because it’s easier than fighting it.
