Where to Deposit Checks by Scanning Them

Do you hate taking checks to the bank?  If you get a lot of checks, you're used to handing them over to a teller so the bank can collect money behind the scenes.

In today's electronic world, it seems odd that the actual piece of paper is so important.

It turns out that more and more institutions will let you deposit checks electronically.  You just send an image of the check, and it's as if you brought it over in person.  You can scan checks using your computer, and some banks allow you to use a mobile phone camera.

FiveCentNickel provides a list of banks and credit unions that allow you to deposit checks electronically.  As of now, there are 21 of them.  Most big banks do not yet offer the service, but small banks and credit unions are leading the way.
